Need to strengthen delivery mechanism for ensuring agri growth: Swaminathan

Dr M S Swaminathan, renowned Agriculture scientist and Member of Parliament has emphasized the need to strengthen delivery mechanism through effective Governance for ensuring agriculture growth in the country.

Delivering a speech on ‘Union Budget and National Food Security’ in Bangalore today, Dr Swaminathan said the younger generation is moving away from farming due to uncertain income. He said agriculture graduates do not want to take up farming and farmers’ enthusiasm is receding. He noted that in such a scenario, Government schemes and programmes will spur agriculture growth only when delivery mechanism improves.

He pointed out that Home Science Graduates and institutions, Self Help Groups and research institutions should be roped in while setting up Mega Food parks. The Parks should be provided linkages with markets and raw materials.

He said like Golden Quadrilateral for roads, a Golden Quadrilateral for cold storage facility should be started to prevent food spoilage and climate Resilient cultivation should be encouraged.
