Need to invest in GM technology: Ramesh

Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh believes that the country should not lag behind in harnessing the benefits of genetically modified technology although there are risks to be managed.<br/><br/>Speaking at a function to mark the International Day for Biodiversity in New Delhi today, he said strong public sector investment is needed in the area of genetically modified technology as it cannot be allowed to become the monoply of the private sector.<br/><br/>He also announced the Government's plan to set up National Bureau of Forest Genetic Resources in Dehradun and Coimbatore on the lines of National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources in New Delhi.
