Need to increase length of National Highways: Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari has said that there is need to increase the length of National Highways from current 96 thousand kilometers to 2 lakh kilometers, enabling it to carry 80 per cent of traffic in India. He said, Sagarmala is spearheading India's port-led development with one crore jobs to be created under it. <br/><br/>Addressing the CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam today, Mr Gadkari emphasized that the Centre is developing infrastructure facilities taking Ports, Rail and Roads into its ambit with an allocation of 15 lakh crore rupees. He said, plan is in place for 14 Industrial Clusters near coasts, to be developed in line with Industrial Corridors. The Minister said, achieving the double digit growth rate vision is impossible without coastal economic development in port-led areas.
