Government today said there is an urgent need to increase the production of coal by bringing more coal bearing area under mining. Speaking at a coal summit in New Delhi, coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said the government is considering to change the mining rules to meet this objective. Mr Jaiswal said India is producing 530 million tonnes coal and importing around 70 million tonnes. He said the government has allocated 208 coal blocks to expand coal production base in the country.
