The Government has said, it is unfortunate that a large number of youth are committing suicides in the country due to mental illness. Addressing a function in New Delhi to mark the World Mental Health Day today, Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel said, there is a need to give more attention to those who are suffering from mental illness. <br/><br/>The Minister said, 10% people are currently suffering from mental illness in India. Saying that number of psychiatrists needs to be increased, the Minister noted that only three psychiatrists are available per 10 lakh people in the country. <br/><br/>The Minister said, the Rajya Sabha has already passed the Mental Health Care Bill with several key amendments. The bill provides for mental health care and services for persons with mental illness. It also has a provision to protect, promote and fulfill the rights of such persons during delivery of mental health care and services.
