Need to ensure streamlining the implementation of NREGA: Dr Joshi

The Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Dr. C.P.Joshi has emphasized the need to ensure streamlining the implementation of NREGA by consistent monitoring of works being done under the Act. Addressing the members of Parliamentary Consultative Committee on NREGA in New Delhi on Thursday, Dr Joshi said that NREGA supplements wage-employment opportunities in rural areas by providing safety net to rural poor and strengthens grass root democracy by infusing transparency and accountability in rural governance. Highlighting the performance of NREGA, he said , a total of 10.63 crore job cards have been provided since the enactment of the Act. He said that 3.37 crore rural house holds got employment till September of this financial year, out of which 52% beneficiaries are women. Dr Joshi said that 16,747 crore rupees have also been spent on various works under the scheme till last month of this financial year.<br/>
