Need to deal cross-border terror in comprehensive manner: VP Ansari

India has said, international and cross-border terrorism should be dealt with in a comprehensive manner. <br/><br/>Addressing the National Assembly of Mali in capital Bamako this afternoon, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari reiterated that with a view to strengthening international normative regime on terrorism, an early adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism is essential.<br/><br/> He said, terrorist actions cannot be justified on any grounds and India condemns the menace in all its forms.<br/><br/>The Vice President also said, as the world becomes more globalised and inter-connected, cross-cutting issues, like terrorism, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, climate change and human trafficking are rising. He said, they cannot be resolved by a handful of powerful countries or even through regional efforts.<br/><br/>Mr. Ansari added that India is committed to the effective implementation of Paris Agreement on Climate Change based on equity and principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.<br/><br/>On India-Africa relations, the Vice President said, his visit comes at a time when India's growth story not only provides more resources for its own development, but also gives financial leverage in expanding its engagement with emerging countries like Africa. Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on India's partnership with Africa, Mr Ansari said, it is a relationship beyond strategic considerations.<br/><br/>Speaking about his visit to Mali, the Vice President said, India sees itself as a partner in Mali's reconstruction, economic development and growth. He said, bilateral trade has trebled in the last five years. <br/><br/>However, it is still below the potential that exists. The Vice President also said, India is ready to support Mali's efforts to restore the glory of Timbaktu. Some extremist elements had tried to desecrate and destroy the cultural treasures in the historic city. Mr Ansari said, India strongly condemns the destruction of heritage sites and places of cultural value.<br/><br/>The Vice President will leave for home later tonight. He is on a two-nation visit to West Africa. He had visited Nigeria in the first leg.

In the wake of the surgical strikes on terror launch pads across the LoC, India today asserted that international and cross-border terrorism should be dealt with in a comprehensive manner and called for early adoption of a global treaty on terrorism. Noting that terrorist actions cannot be justified on any grounds, Vice President Hamid Ansari said India face the threat of terrorism from across its borders.<br/><br/> He was addressing the National Assembly of the Republic of Mali in Bamako. He said, that with a view to strengthening international normative regime on terrorism, an early adoption of the CCIT (Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism) is essential.<br/><br/>Terming Mali as an ancient seat of learning and a nation that was for centuries a melting pot of cultural traditions and influences, and home to great scholars, musicians and historians, he said "in recent years we have sought to close the distance that separates us physically". He said his visit, the first high-level one to Mali from India, takes place at a time of excellent bilateral relations between the two countries.
