Need to choke financial resources of Naxal groups: Rajnath Singh

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said, unified coordination and command are needed to tackle the problem of Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the country. Addressing the review meeting of LWE situation in New Delhi, Mr Singh said, strategic unified command is also required at operations level. Highlighting the need for motivation and training for the security personnel, Mr Singh said, improvement in the training facilities and facilities at the camps are required. <br/><br/>He said, LWE cadres are constantly trying to inflict losses on security forces to boost the morale of their cadres and in this situation, there is a need to be more proactive rather than reacting after the occurrence of the incident. Mr Singh said the states should take the ownership of LWE operations and CAPFs actively cooperate with them. He said, the forces on the ground level should not lack leadership and unity of purpose and unity of action are essential for the success of operations. <br/><br/>Mr Singh said, smart Leadership full of self confidence should have a solid vision. He stressed on the use of UAVs, PTZ cameras, GPS tracking, Thermal imaging, Radar and satellite images and other tools of information technology during operations. The Home Minister also offered the idea of SAMADHAN to counter the naxal problem. <br/><br/>He pitched for chalking out a specific action plan for each theatre with clearly defined short term, medium term and long term strategies. He also called for choking the financial resources of the LWE cadres. The Home Minister said that the martyrdom of the security forces will not go in vain and the day is not far when the mindless violence will end.<br/><br/>The Home Ministry will set up a committee to maintain coordination between Central Paramilitary Forces and State police forces in Left Wing Extremism affected states. <br/><br/>Briefing reporters after a day long review meeting of Chief Ministers and senior officials of Left Wing Extremism affected states in New Delhi this evening, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi said the Committee to be chaired by him will look into all issues related to tackling naxal menace. He said the meeting brought into the notice all issues that require urgent attention including vacancies in state police. <br/><br/>Replying to a query about the deployment of armed forces in anti naxal operations, he said there is no question of defence forces. He said CPF and State police personnel have been going for decades for training to the army. <br/><br/>He also said demonetisation has choked the funds of naxalites therefore arms snatching incidents have increased recently.The Home Secretary said the big take away from today's meeting was reiteration that naxal menace will be wiped out from the country.
