Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh has said separate procurement, processing and marketing of desi cow milk is the need of the hour. He said, such milk must fetch premium price. <br/><br/>Addressing the industry representatives in New Delhi today, Mr Singh said, this will not only help in improving rural economy but also lead to development and conservation of the native cattle breeds. <br/><br/>He said that milk is an indispensable food for human beings from infancy to old age and there are innumerable health benefits accredited to milk and milk products. Mr Singh said, all over the world people fulfill approximately 13 per cent of their protein requirements from milk and milk products. <br/><br/>The Minister also suggested that the schemes of the government may be modified to encourage setting up of dairy units and milk plants for processing and marketing of desi cow milk.
