Environment Minister Jayanthi Natrajan today said that the Centre is committed to conservation of forests and wildlife animals. Addressing a function to mark the wildlife week in New Delhi, Mrs Natrajan said, government will take steps to ensure that the animal corridors are legal entities.
The Minister said that her Ministry is closely working with state governments for ensuring effective measures for the protection of wildlife habitats. She said, protection of wildlife habitats are crucial for the balance of ecosystem. The Environment Minister said, the Centre will also amend the laws to protect critical habitats in the country, if needed.
Expressing concern over the poaching of tigers and other wildlife animals, Mrs Natrajan sought cooperation from the local people to protect these animals. She underlined the need for participation of the civi society in the government's campaign to save the animal world.
