Nearly one thousand evacuated as volcano erupts in Phillipines

In the Philippines, nearly one thousand people have been evacuated following a volcanic eruption in the central parts of the country. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said ash from the eruption on mount Bulusan has hit a high of two kilometers. Officials said volcanic ash has fallen in the towns of Casiguran and Juban. Mount Bulusan is the highest peak in Sorsogon and covers a land area of 3,672 hectares. The volcano had been spewing ash and steam since December last year.
