Getting a job might be a difficult proposition these days but a survey has found that 46 per cent of employees in the country are averse to part-time employment. According to Ma Foi Randstad Workmonitor Survey 2011 – Wave3, in India 46 per cent of employees believe working part-time is not a sound career move.
The survey said that the global average of employees working in a part time job is 15 per cent, while in India the figure stands at 27 per cent and is slowly gaining popularity with sectors like healthcare, hospitality, ITeS, BFSI and retail contributing significantly.
In China, the estimated proportion of employees working in a part time job stands as high as 35 per cent. Ma Foi Randstad MD and CEO E Balaji said, though part-time jobs were not a favourable career option until sometime back, it is slowly gaining momentum in India now and are fast becoming a win-win situation for the employers and the employees.
