Nearly 50% voters cast votes during 5th phase polling in Bihar amidst tight security

In Bihar, an estimated 50 percent voting was recorded in 35 constituencies during the fifth phase of elections in Bihar. AIR Patna correspondent reports that polling percentage is likely to increase as reports from remote areas are yet to receive.Amidst tight security arrangements polling in 17 Naxal infested constituencies passed off peacefully during fifth phase of elections in the state by 4 PM. Polling in remaining 18 constituencies concluded at 5pm. No major incident has been reported so far from any parts of the constituencies. In some booths electorates have boycotted polls in protest against non – implementation of development work in their areas. Over 250 persons were arrested as a preventive measures. Political fortune of 490 candidates including 44 women were sealed in EVms after today poll. Political bigwigs whose fate have been sealed in EVMs include Ministers Prem Kumar, Harinarayan Singh, Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha and Jitan Ram Manjhi.
