NE students protest death of AP student Nido Tania in Delhi, Itanagar

In Arunachal Pradesh capital Itanagar, hundreds of students and members of the civil society today took out a protest rally against the killing of Arunachalee student in New Delhi on Thursday. The rally started from Akashdeep Market and ended at the Raj Bhawan where the protestors submitted a memorandum to Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma.

Angry protestors shouted slogans against the killing of Nido Tania and repeated attacks on students from the North East in Delhi region. Meanwhile, the body of Tania, who is the son of Arunachal MLA and Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Family Welfare Nido Pavitra will be arriving in Itanagar from Guwahati this evening. The student succumbed to his injuries on Thursday after shopkeepers in Lajpat Nagar area allegedly assaulted him on Wednesday.

The Delhi Police will today submit a deatiled report today to the Home Ministry over the incident leading to the death of an Arunachal Pradesh student in Delhi. Nido Tania, a student, was allegedly beaten to death by some shopkeepers following an altercation at Lajpat Nagar on Thursday.

DCP- South East, P Karunakaran told AIR that the report is likely to be submitted by 3 PM. He said, police has registered murder case at Lajpat Nagar police station and three persons have been detained for interrogation so far. The Delhi Government had ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death yesterday.

AIR correspondent reports that people from north eastern region residing in the city are agitated over the incident. Their representatives protested in South Delhi where the incident took place and demanded stern action against culprits.
