NDMA proposes to provide police vans which can detect radioactive elements

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has proposed to the government to provide police vans with equipments which can detect radioactive elements.<br/><br/>The suggestion came in the backdrop of experts detecting radioactive isotope Cobalt-60 in a scrap dealer's shop in Delhi's Mayapuri industrial area.<br/><br/>A senior NDMA official said the police vans should be fitted with equipments that can detect radioactive substances. <br/><br/>At least six persons were exposed to radiation in Delhi in the past few days after they came in contact with radioactive material which were part of scrap.<br/>Earlier, Science and Technology Minister Prithviraj Chavan said government is planning some mechanism to ensure that scrap dealers report to authorities about detection of radioactive material found in the scrap. <br/>
