NDMA: Country is well prepared to deal with disasters

The National Disaster Management Authority has said that the country in general is well prepared to deal with disasters which come with some early warning. Vice Chairman of the Authority – NDMA Shashidhar Reddy said quick onset disasters without any early warning like earthquakes is a challenge for global world. He said that Delhi is on the path of better disaster preparedness and a mega mock drill on earthquake preparedness was conducted recently.

Various activities are being conducted both at the local and the state level covering schools, colleges, metros stations, malls and cinema halls to create awareness among the people regarding disaster. He said the drills aim at raising awareness that it is not earthquake that kills but building collapse resulting injury and death. He emphasised on the importance of constructing of safe buildings in the country.
