Bharatiya Janata Party leader and National Democratic Alliance, NDA, nominee Jaswant Singh today filed nomination for Vice Presidential election.
Senior BJP leader L K Advani, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Mrs Sushama Swaraj, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitly, NDA Convener and JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav, Shiv Sena leader Anant Geete, Akali Dal leader Rattan Singh Ajnala and Naresh Gujaral, BJP leaders Yashwant Sinha, Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ms Vasundhara Raje were present on the occassion among others.
Mr Jaswant Singh who was unanimously chosen as opposition NDA candidate for the post, has filed three sets of Nomination papers. He had served as the Finance, External Affairs and Defence Minister during the NDA government.
Our correspondent reports that till yesterday, 33 nominations were filed for the Vice President's election and three nomination papers were rejected as certified copy of the electoral roll entry of candidates were not attached.
Ruling UPA's Vice Presidential candidate Mohammad Hamid Ansari had already filed his nomination papers on Wednesday for the August 7 poll in the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and leaders of the ruling coalition. Today is the last day of filing nominations till 3 pm. The scrutiny will take place tomorrow.
