NDA differs its decision on presidential candidate

The crucial meet of the National Democratic Alliance, NDA in New Delhi to decide on its Presidential candidate remained inconclusive. Addressing the media after the meeting at senior BJP leader L K Advani's residence in New Delhi today, JDU leader and convener of the NDA, Sharad Yadav said that all leaders wanted more consultations before taking any decision on the issue. Mr. Yadav said that NDA ruled States' Chief Ministers will also be contacted.

Mr Yadav said that Mr. Advani and he himself will discuss the issue with leaders of its allies.

Besides Mr. Advani, the leaders who attended the meeting include BJP President Nitin Gadkari, senior party leader Jaswant Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitly, JDU leader and convener of the NDA Sharad Yadav and Shivanand Tiwari and SAD leader Naresh Gujaral.

Shiv Sena did not attend the meeting. The Congress has expressed the hope that Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee will accept the candidature of Pranab Mukherjee for the post of President like other UPA partners who gave their nod.

Meanwhile, the NCP has asked P A Sangma to withdraw from contesting the Presidential polls. Senior NCP leader and Union Minister Praful Patel said in New Delhi that, the party's line was to unconditionally support Pranab Mukherjee for the top constitutional post.
