National Commission for Women, NCW, has taken suo motu cognizance of the Lakhimpur incident in Uttar Pradesh where a 14-year old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by a group of policemen. NCW Chairperson Yasmin Abrar said that the UP government should take strict action against the accused and maintain law and order in the State. She said that the Commission was concerned about the actions of UP Police. AIR correspondent reports that the body of the victim was found on a tree in the police compound in Lakhimpur after she had reportedly entered the compound while grazing her cattle. Meanwhile the National Human Rights Commission has also sought a detailed report from the UP government on the incident within four weeks.A National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, team will visit Lakhimpur Kheri district to investigate into the alleged rape and murder of a teenaged girl at Nighasan police station. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the girl was found hanging on a tree inside the police station premise on Friday. BJP today demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a 14 year old girl by a group of policemen in Lakhimpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Party Spokesman Prakash Javdekar accussed the Mayawati Government of shielding the accused and said that CB-CID is not the right agency to carry out the probe.
