The National Commission for Women today proposed to set up a call centre with a toll free phone number for effective and speedy resolution of complaints of women in the country. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, the Chairperson of the Commission Mamta Sharma said that this will ensure that aggrieved women can register their complaints on line.
Ms Sharma announced that a women rights awareness campaign is being launched in four States of Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Kerala from the19th of this month. She said that the Commission wants to have better co-ordination with states in dealing with cases related to violence against women. Only those cases which the states are not able to deal with will be taken up by the Commission.
The commission plans to organise seminars on women's mental health and Women's week in March where women activists fighting for the rights of rural women will be awarded. The Commission also released two booklets on women rights particularly measures to counter domestic violence and harassment at work place.
