The National Commission for Women has demanded one-time payment benefit for former women cricket players from the profits of the Indian Premier League (IPL), as was done recently for their male counterparts. NCW chairperson Mamta Sharma told reporters in New Delhi today that a woman is second to none. She said if former male players are entitled to the payment, women should also get it. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had last week disbursed 70 crore rupeesaccrued from the IPL surplus as one-time payment benefit to 20 former international and domestic players who retired prior to 2004.Slamming the BCCI for ignoring the "efforts of women" players, Sharma has shot off a letter to Union Sports Minister Ajay Maken, seeking his intervention in the matter. She also mooted the idea of an Indian Premier League featuring women cricket players.
