NCW chief calls for coordination to tackle issues faced by women with disability

National Commission for Women Chairperson, Lalitha Kumaramangalam today called for coordination between various Ministries to tackle the issues faced by women with disability. Briefing media in New Delhi after a consultation on expanding opportunities for women with disability, Ms Kumaramangalam said women with disabilities suffer triple discrimination on grounds of gender, physical and mental impairment and social status. She said issues of such women are far more complex as they lack access to education, which results in problems linked with illiteracy, poverty and lack of decision making power. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports the meet was organised to discuss strategies for mainstreaming women with disabilities. The discussion covered wide range of issues like education, survival, and safety. The Consultation was attended by 50 representatives from different Ministries, including Health Ministry , Women and Child Development Ministry and Railways Ministry.
