The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh assured West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that he has requested the Home Minister P. Chidambaram to find ways to take the concerns of state governments on board on the issue of National Counter Terrorism Centre, NCTC. Ms. Banerjee urged him to keep the move in abeyance.
The PMO said in a release that Dr. Singh's assurance was given to Ms. Banerjee when she met him at his residence.
Ms Banerjee said she informed Prime Minister that NCTC will disturb the federal structure of the country. She was speaking to reporters after the meeting.
Ms Banerjee added that issues of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration and excess flow of water to Bangladesh through the Farakka barrage were also discussed.
