Congress Spokesman Mr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi today asserted that the proposed National Counter Terrorism Centre, NCTC, does not infringe on the rights of the states.

Speaking to newsmen in Chennai, he appealed to leaders of various political parties not to politicize the issue. Mr. Singhvi said the proposal was not aimed at interfering in the affairs of the state governments as alleged by Chief Ministers of Non -congress led governments and urged them to support the anti- terrorism hub in national interests.

The NCTC mooted by the Union Home Ministry ran into rough weather after some Chief Ministers of non Congress ruled states including Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat demanded scrapping of the move, alleging that it would usurp the powers of the state and amounted to an attack on federal structure.
