NCSC asks MEA to settle Devyani Khobragade case

National Commission for Scheduled Caste (NCSC) has today asked Ministry of External Affairs to settle the case of Devyani Khobragade former Deputy Consul General of India in New York at the earliest. The case is presently in the United States.<br/><br/>Mrs Khobragade was charged by U.S. authorities with allegedly committing a visa fraud and providing false statements in order to gain entry for an Indian woman to the US as her domestic help.<br/>In a press release, NCSC Vice-President Dr. Rajkumar Verka said commission acted on her father Uttam Khobragade's request and issued a notice to the ministry. <br/><br/>Two joint secretary level officers of the MEA, Vinay Mohan Kwatra and Munnu Mahawar appeared before Dr. Verka and apprised him of the present situation. Mr. Verka said the commission is satisfied with MEA's response.

National Commission for Scheduled Caste (NCSC) has today asked the Ministry of External Affairs to settle the case related to the former Deputy Consul General of India in New York City, Devyani Khobragade at the earliest. The case is presently on in the United States. Mrs Khobragade was charged by U.S. authorities with allegedly committing a visa fraud and providing false statements in order to gain entry to the US for an Indian woman to employ her as her domestic help in New York.<br/><br/>In a press release, NCSC Vice-President Dr. Rajkumar Verka said since Devyani belongs to Dalit community so the commission acted on her father Uttam Khobragade's request and issued a notice to the ministry. Two joint secretary level officers of the MEA, Vinay Mohan Kwatra and Munnu Mrawar appeared before Dr. Verka and apprised him of the present situation. He said her father has appealed to the Government of India to intervene in settling the case with the US so that her daughter could work with free mind. Mr. Verka said the commission is satisfied with MEA's response.
