NCPCR askes media to refrain from publishing child victims’ identity

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has asked media organisations to refrain from publishing the identity of children who are victims of violence or those who are in conflict with the law. The latest directions of the NCPCR have come in the wake of the case of a Class V student of the Visva Bharati university who was allegedly forced to drink her urine as a punishment for bedwetting.

According to NCPCR chairperson Shanta Sinha, the Commission has written to the Press Council of India as well as the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting asking them to find out what action can be taken against the media for violating Section 21 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
