NCP dismisses demands for Pawar's resignation

The NCP today dismissed demands for the resignation of UnionAgriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.The party has dubbed as absurd the reports that he was holding shares in the Royal Challengers Bangalore. NCP chief spokesman D P Tripathi said a person who does not have a majority shareholding in any company, is not decisive in decision making. Party's comments came in the wake of reports that Pawar and his family own shares in Vijay Mallya's United Spirits Ltd (USL), of which Royal Challengers Sports Private Ltd (RCSPL) is a wholly-owned subsidiary. <br/>Earlier Opposition has mounted pressure on the Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to resign over the Pune IPL bid row . The BJP, CPIM and Shiv Sena have sought a joint parliamentary probe into the issue. BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad while talking to reporters urged the Prime Minister to drop the minister from the cabinet if he does not resign. Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray also made a similar demand. Raising the pitch in Delhi, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury said a joint parliamentary probe should be launched to investigate all the ramifications of the IPL. CPI has also made a similar demand.<br/>Congress maintained that Pawar will have to fend for himself. Party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said that Congress stand is the same and a general inquiry into the matter is already on. Pune City Corporation Managing Director Aniruddh Deshpande has refuted allegations that he kept the IPL in the dark about his individual bid for the franchise .He conceded that the company's name was used in his bid documents. <br/><br/>
