NCMC reviews preparedness of states, central Ministries to deal with super Cyclone 'Amphan'

<span style="color: #222222;">National Crisis Management Committee under Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba met for the second time yesterday to review the preparedness of states and central Ministries and agencies to deal with the super cyclone AMPHAN. Officers of Odisha and West Bengal Governments apprised the NCMC of preparatory measures taken by them. They also assured that adequate stocks of food grains, drinking water and other essential supplies and services are available with them.<br />'' <br />'' NDRF has deployed 26 teams in Odisha and West Bengal and additional teams are enroute to these states. The teams are equipped with boats, tree cutters, telecom equipment etc. Rescue and relief teams of the Army and Navy alongwith ships and aircraft of the Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard have been put on standby.<br />'' <br />'' Reviewing the preparedness, Cabinet Secretary directed that all necessary measures be taken to complete evacuation of people from low lying areas in cyclone path and maintain adequate quantities of essential supplies such as food, drinking water and medicines. Agencies were directed to prevent disruptions to Power and Telecommunications services. NCMC will meet again today to take stock of the emerging situation.<br />''<br />''Meanwhile, Home secretary Ajay Bhalla has also spoken to Chief secretaries of West Bengal and Odisha regarding cyclone AMPHAN. Sufficient number of Army, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard teams have been put on to meet any contingency and provide support to the state governments. He has requested the State Governments of West Bengal and Odisha to take all preventive actions. These include timely evacuation of people from the  areas likely to be affected, having a  24X7 Control Room, provision of adequate food items and preparations for timely restoration of essential services. He also assured immediate assistance from the Central Government to the states. </span>
