In Nepal, two main ruling parties – Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) have agreed to determine the federal structure of the country through a state restructuring commission.<br/><br/>This was decided at a meeting of the top leaders of the two parties in Kathmandu on Thursday.<br/><br/>Talking to newsmen after the meeting, Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel said the meeting decided to activate the High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM) in consultation with the Unified CPN(Maoist) although no decision was arrived at as to who would lead the three-party high level mechanism after the demise of its former convenor and Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala.<br/><br/>The two ruling parties – Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) also discussed ways to resolve existing differences on key features of the constitution and decided to hold further discussions with the Unified CPN(Maoist) so that constitution drafting process could be completed within May 28 dateline. This was the first meeting between the two ruling parties on peace process and writing of the constitution since the demise of the veteran Nepali Congress leader Girija Prsadad Koirala.
