In Jammu and Kashmir ruling National Conference and Congress alliance today bagged 5 out of the six Legislative Council seats for which polling was held today. However, one seat went to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party. National Conference won three seats while its alliance partner Congress got two. In Kashmir Province, Bashir Ahmed Shah (Veeri) and Mr. Dharamveer Singh Oberoi of National Conference got elected to Upper House. In Jammu province, Master Noor Hussain of National Conference and Yashpal Khajuria of Congress won the Council election by getting 30 votes each. Mr. Jehangir Mir of Congress secured 52 votes out of 88 polled votes for Poonch reserved seat. Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today said that the victory of all the coalition candidates in Legislative Council elections indicates the cohesion and unity between National Conference and Congress and asserted that the coalition would get further strengthened with the passage of time.
