The Indian Navy's first all-women crew of Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini, today crossed the Cape Horn as they were making their way to the Falklands Island. Crew of six women naval officers is sailing on Tarini, a 55-foot yacht, on their eight-month circumnavigation of the globe. The Cape Horn was most challenging point in the journey. Few people have attempted the stretch which is known for the extremely rough seas and unpredictable climate. <br/>'<br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman have congratulated the crew. In a message, Prime minister said it is a wonderful news and he is delighted that INSV Tarini has rounded Cape Horn in the last few hours. He said country is extremely proud of their accomplishments.<br/>'<br/>Defence Minister said Indian Tri-colours were hoisted with great Pride onboard INSV Tarini as she crossed the Cape Horn designated point by Lat and Long. <br/>'<br/>The all-women crew under Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi had left from Goa for their historic journey in September last year. The vessel has covered over 7,800 Nautical miles from Goa, crossing the Equator, Western Australia's Cape Leeuwin and New Zealand. It will next make stops at Falkland Islands and South Africa before its scheduled return in April.<br/> <br/> The expedition, titled 'Navika Sagar Parikrama', is in consonance with the national policy to empower women to attain their full potential. It aims to showcase 'Nari Shakti' on the world platform and help revolutionalise the societal mindset towards women in India by raising visibility of their participation in challenging environment.<br/>
