The Chief of the naval staff Admiral Nirmal Verma reviewed the Eastern Naval Fleet at sea yesterday in which ships, submarines and aircraft of the Command, Fleet and local flotilla took part.Our correspondent reports that Admiral Verma who earlier headed the Eastern Command is on a farewell visit. During his leadership in 2008-2009 the Eastern Naval Command had been involved in a number of operational, anti-piracy, and humanitarian missions in the Bay of Bengal, South East Asia, and the Gulf of Aden. The Command continued to grow under his leadership from the integrated headquarters, adding new ships, air stations and squadrons and extending its reach across the globe. The Indian Navy undertook joint operations with all major navies of the world extending from Pacific Ocean to the Persian Gulf. The chief of naval staff Admiral Verma is scheduled to address the officers and staff of the command before his departure today
