Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba has said that the continued presence of both traditional and non-traditional threats in the maritime domain demands robust mitigating actions and the Navy is actively engaged in ensuring safety and security in India's maritime areas. <br/><br/>Addressing media in New Delhi, he said the Navy has adopted several new measures to effectively fulfil its commitment to the nation. These are aimed at making the processes and structures more efficient and outcome-oriented. <br/><br/>He said, on the operational front, it has re-oriented its deployment philosophy to Mission-Based-Deployments. He also said the Navy has maintained continuous presence off the Horn of Africa for anti-piracy operations since 2008. <br/><br/>The Navy Chief said, Indian Naval Ships deployed on anti-piracy patrols have been actively involved in foiling piracy attempts in the Gulf of Aden. In addition, regular deployment of naval ships and aircraft is being maintained in the North Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, Persian Gulf, the Andaman Sea and the approaches to the strategically important straits of Malacca, Lombok and Sunda. <br/><br/>Admiral Sunil Lanba also said, this deployment philosophy has ensured a high degree of presence, visibility and situational awareness in important maritime regions across the globe.<br/><br/>He informed the Navy is going to allow woman officers on board its warships and suitable facilities are being made available in the newly-constructed ships for them. He added that the Navy is examining rules and regulations for allowing woman officers on board the warships.
