Navi Mumbai airport may become a reality with Environment and Civil Aviation Ministries reaching an understanding on Tuesday. This is subject to clearence by Expert Appraisal Committee of the Environment next month. The project ran into trouble due to the problem of environment clearance. But, according to understanding reached on Tuesday between Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh and Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel in New Delhi it may get the green signal now.Under the revised proposal, the airport site will not be changed but the location of non-aeronautical assets like hotels and shopping areas are likely to be shifted.Terming the meeting as very constructive, Praful Patel said, a lot of progress has been made because of the proactive approach taken by both the sides.Jairam Ramesh told reporters after the meeting that the Expert Appraisal Committee of the Environment Ministry will meet on November 9 and 10 to have a final look at the compromises being worked out by both sidesThe Civil Aviation Minister had recently said the airport was set to get the environment clearance by October-end.
