In Odisha, five new Cabinet ministers have been inducted in the Naveen Patnaik Government. Governor Muralidhar Chandrakant Bhandare administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly inducted ministers at Raj Bhawan this afternoon. The newly inducted ministers are Lal Behari Himrika, Niranjan Pujari, Pradeep Moharathy, Maheswar Mohanty and Usha Devi. Minister of State for Handloom and Textiles, Anjali Behera, has also been elevated to the Cabinet rank. The induction of five new ministers has increased the number of members in the Odisha Council of Ministers to 22 including the Chief Minister. However, the portfolios of the newly inducted ministers are yet to be distributed. This is the first Cabinet reshuffle of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Government after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik returned to power in 2009 for the third consecutive terms. The Odisha Chief Minister had asked three of his ministers, Dr Damodar Rout, Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha and Praveen Chandra Bhanja Deo, to resign yesterday to pave way for the expansion. Deputy Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly, Lal Behari Himrika, also resigned last night to take oath as a Cabinet Minister. The expansion of the BJD Government has drawn sharp criticism from the oppostion Congress and BJP. Both the parties have blamed Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for trying to divert public attention from a number of scams directly involving his government. They have demanded resignation of the Chief Minister and branded the expansion exercise as an eyewash.
