A naval commander today lost his life in a mishap on board an under-construction ship in Mumbai. Navy sources said, its officer Kuntal Wadhva, was declared dead before admission in the Hospital. Yard-701 warship, being built by Mazagaon Docks Limited had a malfunction in its Carbon Dioxide unit, leading to gas leakage. The ship was undergoing machinery trials at the Mumbai Port Trust when the incident occurred. The Navy and the shipyard have set up separate boards of inquiry into the incident.
Meanwhile, spokesperson of Mazagaon Docks Limited has informed that two personnel working for Mazagaon Docks had to be hospitalized but are currently out of danger. This incident comes just ten days after the INS Sindhuratna mishap, in which two officers were killed. This was the 11th incident in seven months stalking naval assets.
