In Libya , NATO Jets screamed in low over the capital Tripoli and carried out an unusually heavy bombardment over roughly three hours. However NATO's deputy spokeswoman Carmen Romero clarified that its bombing campaign was not specifically targeting Gaddafi. Talking to AFP in Brussels, She said the bombing raid in Tripoli is part of the alliance's strategy of destroying Gaddafi's military machine as long as it threatens civilians.Meanwhile, rebels in besieged Misrata claimed to be pushing back the Libyan strongman's forces.After heavy clashes, the rebels controlled a stretch of coastal road west of the town. The United Nations, said the offensive against pro-democracy protesters launched by Gaddafi's forces is paralysing the oil-rich nation and causing the population to suffer widespread shortages of essential goods. In Misrata, a rebel military spokesman said opposition forces have forced government troops about 15 kilometers west of the city advancing to the town of Dafniya. Colonel Ahmed Bani also said rebels had dislodged pro-Gadhafi forces from around the airport after two days of heavy fighting. In eastern Libya, rebels reported advances between the towns of Ajdabiya and Brega.
