In Afghanistan, two people were killed and three others were injured in northern province of Faryab as a NATO helicopter opened fire on a car on Thursday. NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Friday that it has initiated an investigation into the operation saying it was targeting a known militant. The governor of Faryab province, Abdul Haq Shafaq said he saw a NATO helicopter attack a passing car as his official convoy was driving five kilometers outside provincial capital Maymana. He said a police officer and the brother of a politician were killed. Mr. Shafaq said two other policemen and a civilian were hurt in the attack. There have been a series of mistaken attacks by coalition forces in recent weeks. These include the deaths of five civilians in a gunfight involving coalition troops on Tuesday and killing of four Afghan soldiers in an accidental air strike last week. Both of those incidents were in the south. The incidents come as a UN report said civilian deaths for the first 10 months of the year stood at 2,412, up 20 percent from the same period last year.
