In Afghanistan, NATO-led coalition forces have killed a senior Taliban commander in Kabul province last night. A press statement issued today said intelligence sources have been tracking Nur Mohammad for weeks who was planning imminent attacks in Kabul city prior to the September 18 Parliamentary elections. Intelligence sources tracked Nur Mohammed and two armed militants to a field in the remote Musahi district of Kabul province. After careful planning to ensure no civilians were present, coalition aircraft conducted a precision air strike killing them. Taliban has given boycott call to the elections saying it will target polling stations and those involved in the polls. Human Rights Watch has said that militant attacks on candidates and poor government security protection risk severely compromise the next week elections. It said candidates as well as their staff members and election officials face assassinations, kidnappings, and intimidation.
