In Afghanistan, at least eight Taliban militants were killed when they attacked an airport cum military base in eastern city of Jalalabad this morning. NATO said in a statement that its troops and Afghan National Army soldiers killed the militants.One of the militants was wearing a suicide bomb vest. Initial reports indicate no security personnel were killed in the attack. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack saying 14 of its fighters were involved in the attack.The attack comes only a day after a suicide bomb attack in capital Kabul killed a civilian. It was targeted against a military convoy and happened outside a military base. This is the second such attack on Jalalabad military base this year. The attacks signify escalation in violence before the NATO summit next week where Afghanistan strategy will come up for review.US President Barack Obama is also set to review his Afghanistan war strategy next month and has announce a gradual troop withdrawal of US troops from July 2011.
