NATO forces in Afghanistan eliminate over 60 militants

In Afghanistan, more than 60 militants were killed by NATO-led forces in a three day operation over the weekend in Faryab province. A NATO statement issued today said the combined force cleared the area around Ghuchghar village after receiving reports of militant activity. The force reported destroying 23 motorcycles used by militants, several rocket propelled grenades, machine guns, numerous assault rifles and accompanying ammunition. Coalition forces have launched a series of clearing and stabilisation operations all over the country to reverse the momentum of Taliban-led forces. They have predicted higher violence level in the coming months due to these efforts. Only yesterday, at least 25 people were killed in a suicide bomb attack and an anti-US protest that turned violent.
