NATO calls for speedy handover of security responsibility to Afghan forces

The NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has called for speeding up of handing over security responsibility to Afghan forces. Addressing the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Edinburgh, he stressed that the next year should see a move from a combat to a support role.<br/> <br/>Meanwhile, five leading lawmakers of the Democratic Party in the United States have conveyed their concern to President Obama about sending more troops to Afghanistan. In a letter, they said the US objectives in Afghanistan remain ill-defined and unclear. They called for a comprehensive rethinking of the military mission, complete redesign of the reconstruction strategy and a courageous reconciliation process in the war-torn country.<br/><br/>
