In Afghanistan, 46 Taliban militants have been killed in NATO air strikes in the eastern province of Kunar, on the border with Pakistan. Local officials have put the death toll at 46 while the insurgents have confirmed only 13 dead and 10 wounded.

Kunar border areas have come under heavy shelling from the Pakistani side in recent months. The air strikes were carried in the Chapa Dara district of Kunar.
