In Afghanistan, NATO and Afghan forces claimed to have killed more than 130 Taliban fighters over the past week in a major operation in Northern Province of Kunduz. A NATO spokesman said a combined force of 700 Afghan troops and 50 NATO soldiers cleared villages of fighters in and around Char Dara district, which militants had controlled in past few months. The spokesman said eight Taliban commanders were among the dead during the five-day operation, but there were no casualties reported among the forces. The joint forces have launched a major operation to clear militant’s stronghold in the area which also serves as new supply route for NATO forces. Meanwhile, Afghan police shot dead two would-be suicide bombers in southern Ghazni province today. A press release of Interior Ministry said the two bombers driving an explosive-laden car heading from Andar district to the provincial capital Ghazni city were gunned down after they refused to stop for checking. It said one constable also sustained injuries in the incident.
