Nat'l Games: Services way ahead of other teams in medals tally with 82 gold

As the 35th national games being held in Kerala enters the concluding day, Services has surged ahead of other teams, retaining the top position in the medals tally, with an unbeatable tally of 82 gold medals, 28 silver medals and 24 bronze medals. Hosts Kerala excelled in Athletic events, with a gold rush to gain the second spot with 37 gold medals, 38 silver medals and 49 bronze medals. A keen contest is on between hosts Kerala and Haryana. Yesterday alone, Kerala grabbed 10 gold medals and seven silver medals. Haryana is a close third with 34 gold medals, 29 silver medals and 19 bronze medals. Maharashtra is in the fourth position with with 29 gold, 41 silver and 41 bronze medals. Haryana's Rajinder Singh set a new national record, winning gold medal in men's javelin, with a massive throw of 82.23 metres. Kerala's Renjith Maheswary won triple jump gold setting a meet record of 16.66 metres.G Lakshmanan of Services got a golden double as he won the 10000 metres with a meet record. Lakshmanan had won gold in 5000 metres on the opening day. Kerala's O P Jaisha won a golden double winning women's 10,000 metres and 5000 metres with a new meet record. Kerala won gold in men's 4 x 100 metres relay and women's 4 x 100 metres relay with meet records. Kerala men and women's teams have reached the finals of the volleyball. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Kerala for the successful conduct of the National games. In a statement send to the Chief Minister, Prime Minister pointed out competition and camaraderie was the hallmark of the Games. This will promote healthy competition among the younger generation, he said.
