Nations remembers 26/11 martyrs; Parliament resolves to unitedly & defeat forces of terrorism

The nation today remembered victims of the Mumbai carnage, with Parliament making a resolve to unitedly fight and defeat the forces of terrorism. Members in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha stood in silence for a minute in memory of those killed in Mumbai terror attacks on this day last year. Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said, the House salutes the indomitable courage of the security forces who gave a crushing blow to the terrorists on November 26 and the fortitude of the people of Mumbai.<br/><br/>In the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Hamid Ansari recalled the way Mumbai quickly attained normalcy after the terror attack. In Pune, President Pratibha Patil expressed Government's determination to track down those responsible for the ghastly attacks. <br/>Paying tributes to those who died in Mumbai terror attack, Leader of Opposition Mr L K Advani said that the rehabilitation and compensation process to the next of the kin of the victims should be expedited. Talking to reporters outside the Parliament, Mr Advani said a mechanism to address all issues related to the rehabilitation should be crated in Mumbai.<br/>Speaking on the same lines, CPIM leader Sitaram Yechury also demanded for making the process of giving compensation faster. He added that better mechanism and coordination between intelligence agencies is needed to prevent reoccurrence of such events.<br/><br/>The BJP has urged the government to clear all backlog of compensation to the kin and victims of 26/11 attacks. Talking to reporters outside the Parliament, BJP spokesperson Mr Prakash Javdekar said that only 118 of the over 400 kins and victims have been given the compensation so far.<br/><br/>A blood donation camp was also organised in the Parliament complex as a mark of respect to the victims of Mumbai Carnage. The camp was inaugurated by the Lok Sabha speaker Mrs Meira Kumar.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, Mumbai, which was shaken by the 26/11 terror attacks a year ago, came out in full force today to express their solidarity against terrorism. While the security forces took out a parade from Hotel Trident to Girgaum Chowpatty to instill confidence in people, the newly acquired weapons of the police after the attacks were also kept on display.<br/><br/>People also showed that had not forgiven or forgotten the attacks by lighting candles in the memory of martyrs and participating in various events organised by citizens forums and non-governmental organizations. Blood donation camps were also organised in the city to spread the message of humanity.<br/><br/>Political parties across the board today paid homage to the victims of Mumbai carnage . Saluting the valor and fortitude of people and security forces who fought the terrorists in Mumbai a year ago,the Congress party urged the Centre and the Maharashtra government to expedite the process of compensation to the victims of Mumbai terror attacks. Party spokesman, Mr. Shakeel Ahmed described the attack on Mumbai as an attack on the nation.<br/><br/>The BJP while paying its respects to the the victims, urged the centre to take relief and compensation to victims the terror attack on war footing. Talking to reporters in New Delhi , the BJP Leader Mr. Anant Kumar alleged that the government has been careless in dealing with the issue of rehabilitation.<br/><br/>Paying tributes, CPIM called for setting up of a better mechanism to prevent reoccurrence Mumbai like terror attacks. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, CPIM leader Mr Sitaram Yechury said that better coordination between the intelligence forces is needed to prevent occurrence of such events. Mr Yechury also urged the government to expedite rehabilitation work.<br/><br/>Candles have been lit at the Aamar Jawan Joyti near India Gate to pay homage to the victims of Mumbai terror attack. Hundreds of people including women and children have assemled at the venue to light the candles and pay their last respects.<br/>
