NationGovt sets up TV content regulatoral News Heading

The Government has set up two tier self regulatory body to monitor television broadcast contents. In reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today, Information and Broadcasting Minister Mrs. Ambika Soni said that 13-member body comprising of members of civil societies, broadcasters and members from Women Commission, Child Right Protection Commission and Minority Commission started functioning from June this year.

Mrs. Soni informed the House that the body had so far received 300 complaints from the citizens and most of the complaints have been replied and in some cases monetary penalties have also been imposed on them.

Sharing the members' views on vulgar and obscene programmes on television, the Minister said the Government had proposed a broadcast regulatory Bill to deal with the situation. She said the Draft Bill had been put on the website seeking suggestions before taking a final decision on it.

Later, Mrs. Soni introduced the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) second Amendment Bill, 2011 in the House.
