National Seed Reserve will be created in the entire country to supply seeds to farmers during shortage or drought. The Secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation T Nand Kumar informed that Central Government has envisaged creating Seed Reserves in the entire country within a year with state funding. He was speaking at the National Seed Congress in Bangalore today. On Rabi yield, he reacted that the there is enough food reserve as the deficit faced during Kharif has been made up by the Rabi harvest season. He also informed that Agriculture Ministry has two options for the Kharif season, one for normal rainfall and another for climate variations. He called upon seed manufacturers to produce high quality seeds at low costs and offer it to farmers as a complete package. He felt that social welfare schemes like NREGA have provided purchasing power in the rural areas and hence to meet the aspirations of this section, nutritious and fibre rich food has to be made available. The Home Minister of Karnataka Dr. V S Acharya and the Secretary Nand Kumar felicitated Dr. Badrinath Barwale, the founder of Mahyco and Dr. Manmohan Attavar, the founder of Indo-American Hybrid Seeds on this occasion. <br/>
