National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon has briefed some senior Congress party leaders on the benefits of the Nuclear Liability Bill. With regard to the Opposition attack over the cap on compensation, Mr. Menon told the Congress leaders that the apprehensions are unfounded as there is provision for giving relief to the victims at various stages. The Bill, which provides for compensation in the event of a nuclear mishap was slated to be introduced in Lok Sabha on Monday but the government decided against it at the last moment in view of stiff opposition from Left parties, BJP and SP.
