To build a consensus among political parties, National Security Adviser, Mr Shiv Shankar Menon briefed the Senior BJP leaders about the importance of the civil liability for nuclear damage bill and attempted to address their concerns. Mr Menon met the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Ms Sushma Swaraj, her counterpart in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Arun Jaitley, Deputy Leader of the BJP in the Upper House, Mr S S Ahluwalia, and senior leaders Mr Murli Manohar Joshi and Mr Yashwant Sinha. Earlier Mr. Menon briefed several Congress leaders and Union Ministers on the bill. According to official sources, Mr.Menon along with the Chairman of the Atomic Commission will brief Left and other parties on the provisions of the Bill in the next two days. The bill was deferred in the Lok Sabha following stiff opposition by the BJP and Left Parties.
